Community Services

Community Use of Schools is an initiative of the Ontario Ministry of Education that supports access to school space, outside of school hours, for community members to come together, volunteer, build skills, access community programs, become physically active and build strong and healthy communities.

Schools are welcoming and inclusive environments that offer family groups and community organizations fair and equitable access to the use of school space at affordable rates, to help support and promote healthy, active lifestyles for community youth.

For more information about how to access one of your local schools under this program, please visit their website.

Planet Youth Timiskaming is based on the Icelandic Prevention Model, a proven approach to reduce alcohol, tobacco and drug use among young people and improve their wellbeing.

Planet Youth empowers communities to work together to address the root causes of early substance use. The model’s whole population approach aims to reduce the ‘risk factors’ that increase the likelihood of early substance use, and most importantly, to strengthen the ‘protective factors’ that can prevent it.

There are three action teams across the district. The Central Action Team includes Brethour, Charlton and Dack, Chamberlain, Earlton, Elk Lake, Englehart, Evanturel and Hilliardton.

Central Action Team Members

  • Bernadine Smith
  • Courtney Kruger
  • Elaine Lush
  • Jennifer Maille
  • Jo-Anne Farmer
  • Johanna Paradis
